The newest method for enhancing your recovery at The Back Care Center is a technique called Kinesio Taping.
Kinesio Tape is a self adhesive, elastic tape that can be used in a variety of beneficial ways. When applied correctly, the tape can help with pain and swelling. It can be used to strengthen weak muscles or give ones that are working too hard a rest. I use Kinesio Taping for my patients to help them hold their adjustments longer and enhance the healing effect of care.
Kinesio Taping was first developed in the early 1970’s by a Japanese chiropractor named Dr. Kenzo Kase. It came to the states in the 1990’s. Professional athletes of every type can be spotted wearing the colorful tape on their shoulders, knees or arms but you may have first noticed it on US volleyball player Kerry Walsh during the 2008 Olympics – when she won the gold medal. She wore it on her shoulder and the news media went nuts trying to figure out why.
Elite athletes aren’t the only ones benefiting from this method. People around the world in all walks of life are using Kinesio Taping to help them recover from injuries faster and with less pain.
